Our definition of Style is centered around your life. Who you are, Who you want to become, What Inspires you, and Your mindset is your Style. Everyone’s style is different, and that’s what makes it special. You don’t need to look like someone else or think the same way as someone else in order to reach your full potential.
As you embark on your journey to finding and personalizing your own style here are some important things to remember.
ONE: Aspects of your Style can, will, and should change.
It’s important to seek continual improvement. That is a phrase dancers understand very well. Sometimes, that means redefining who you are and who you want to become. Majority of the time, it relates to our mindset. To grow, we need to continually change our perspective which also helps control our reactions. This is key when living through trials and even triumphs as well. Our perspective on something or someone and our reaction to something or someone, has a large amount of impact not only in our daily lives but also on the type of people we choose to be, or if you will “our style”.
TWO: You are not limited and you are not alone
Are you “stuck” in a situation? Have you made decisions you’re not proud of? Are you going through a really tough time? We’re all human and no one is immune to those constant life battles. Even when things in life happen that are out of our control, we can still decide how we react. Reacting in the best way is easier said than done; however, continually working on that makes all the difference.
Has someone ever discouraged you? Are you afraid to fail? Do you not feel deserving of love? You can determine the next steps you take and you can change these to best fit you. You design your own path, and you do not need anyone’s approval to be the best version of yourself. You’re never alone, and it’s okay to reach out for support.
THREE: Don’t Give Up
We often encounter hardships and challenges in life that push us out of our comfort zone. If we consciously work on our mindset, we can endure and experience our “glow up” in the best way. This doesn’t mean we will never have a bad day. This means when we experience one of the worst days of our lives, we will come out of it even stronger. We will be able to say “I’m fine” and mean it. We won’t give up on our dreams. We will carry on and embrace what or who was lost. We will persevere as we overcome our hardships and use them to our advantage.
Being vulnerable about those situations is very difficult. We hope you’ll find that this is a safespace where you can express yourself. You don’t have to pretend to fit someone else's mold. You don’t have to let a moment or a situation define you. In terms of “fashion”, that will fade. Purposely make decisions that bring you outside of your comfort zone. Speak up about what you believe in and promote positive change. Those are decisions that impact a lifetime. Our mistakes do not define us, and our mindset contains so much power. Owning your style should be an enjoyable experience! We’re excited to help and inspire you while you’re on your journey.
Whether you dance or not, dance is an art form that is inspiring to so many for various reasons. It takes a lot of style to be a dancer, and any dancer appreciates a platform where their creativity and passion is not only highlighted, but required. We love the South Open for that very reason, and hope you’ll stick with us all year round as we also share inside looks into the dancers’ style and the event as a whole.
