South Open Dancesport Championships welcomes all, and is the first ever professional ballroom competition to open up its doors to our beloved alternative dances. Announced officially, the championships now include: Jazz, Ballet, Hip Hop, Tap, Contemporary, Lyrical, Musical Theatre, Acro, and Improvisation. Coming off of 2020, which included record breaking youth engagement at the competition, South Open highlights an amazing new experience for many in this age category. Visit our Youth page to learn more about the competition.
As competition preparation is underway, the South Open Dance Championship will be sharing inside looks, tricks and tips, engaging content, personal stories, and more with you all year round. The competition holds many incredibly talented dancers that will be unveiled as you get to know them and their artistry. The love and passion runs deep at the SODC. We want all dancers to feel that they are a part of a dance community that highlights their craft. They look forward to showcase their style at SODC, and you can too.
"The highest level competition…, energy, excitement can’t get better then that…” says World American Rhythm Champion Emmanuel Pierre-Antoine. South Open Championships have everything for a successful competition…” World American Smooth Champion Olga Foraponova”
2021 marks South Open’s 49th annual year. The competition will be held at the JW Marriott Grande Lakes in Orlando, Florida and will run through the dates December 1–5, 2021. This venue holds one of the largest ballrooms especially in comparison to the standard competition size. This is very important to the staff as the safety and enjoyment of the dancers are always the highest priorities.
