Having a strong resume is the first step towards landing your dream job or internship. Making sure that you include all the necessary details and information will make your skills stand out to potential employers and could put your name at the top of the list.

The following tips will help you to improve your current resume or build out a new one that will grab the eyes of anyone who looks at it. Try out these ideas and get your name out there!

Keep it short and concise.

Your resume should include only the most important aspects of your work experience and skills. Make sure to keep your resume to one page so as not to overcrowd your prospective employer with information and to ensure that your best marketable skills are highlighted.

Use strong verbs.

Make sure that you are including words that emphasize the work that you have done. If you have a job/internship position description, try to pull the same key words or verbs that the description uses to explain your skills and experiences so they match closely with what the employer is looking for. This will help your name stand out among the pile of applications!

If possible, use numbers and proof!

Adding numbers and statistics to represent the work that you have done can help your potential employer to get a better understanding of the work that you are capable of doing in a tangible way. If they are able to document the number of partnerships you made or an increase in the number of views on a social media platform due to your work, they will be more likely to value your resume and experiences above others.

Be clear and truthful.

It can be tempting to add a lot of fluff to your resume to fill it out and make yourself look appealing, especially if you do not have a ton of experience to add. But you must ensure that everything on your resume is something you have done. Being truthful will help both you and your potential employer to find a good fit.

Give a copy to a friend or supervisor that you trust who can go through and proofread in order to help you improve your wording and steer clear of typos or grammatical errors. Another way you can do this is to read your resume aloud to yourself.
