5 Tips to Deal With and Overcome Fatigue in Dance

Fatigue is real. Even the greatest dancers of our time have had days where they cannot even think about going to the studio. Especially during these trying times, it is important we take care of ourselves in order to keep doing what we love. Here are 5 tips to break up with dance fatigue.

1. Take a break

Nobody is perfect. If you have been working to the point of exhaustion, it may be time to take a little break. Maybe cancel your plans and take a nap. Or even, plan an active rest day. Our bodies will tell us when it needs a break, and we should listen. Even a Gilmore Girls marathon counts! Your body needs as much rest as your mind, so you must prioritize taking care of both of them.

2. Stay Hydrated

You can drink all the coffee you wish, but if you are dehydrated, that is not going to help your energy. As athletes, our bodies need to be hydrated to function at the top of our game. Bringing a reusable water bottle with you everywhere you go can help prevent fatigue and help your body function at its best.

3. Fuel Your Body

Not to be cliche, but what we put in our bodies is quite literally what we will get out of them. This doesn’t mean you have to give up sweets, it just means to be more balanced. Our bodies will perform better when fueled with veggies, proteins, and carbs! Make sure to eat enough and treat your body with kindness!

4. A Regular Sleeping Schedule

Sleeping is one of the kindest things you can do for your body and mind. Ensuring that you sleep enough consistently will prevent fatigue from bothering you at dance. Be sure to set timers for when you should go to bed and remind yourself to stay consistent.

5. Self-Care

Sometimes we may not be physically tired, but we are mentally. Addressing your mental health and self-care is crucial to becoming the best and least tired version of yourself. If you need to talk to anyone, websites like BetterHelp or Headspace can help you get in touch with a licensed therapist.

We hope you enjoyed these tips & we cannot wait to see you glow! Keep being you and taking good care of yourself. We here at South Open are extremely proud of you.
